1924 – 2015
LEWISTON — Julia Clabby Terpstra, 90, of 135 Summit Ave., Lewiston, died at her home on Tuesday, Dec. 15, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 18, 1924, the daughter of Patrick H. and Margaret Madden Clabby. Educated locally, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1942. She worked for the phone company for a few years. On July 3, 1948, she married Arthur Terpstra and the two made their home in Walpole, Mass.; he passed away in 1996.
She had been active in the Walpole VFW Ladies Auxiliary and upon her return to Lewiston in 1990, she was active in the former St. Patrick’s Parish, including with the Rosary Sodality and the “Silver Liners.” Always very good with her hands, she enjoyed sewing and knitting items for her family. A member of the former St. Patrick’s Church, she was a communicant of Saints Peter and Paul Basilica, Prince of Peace Parish.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen and wife, Ann, of Seabrook, N.H., and Timothy and wife, Cheryl, of Walpole, Mass.; a daughter, Paula, and husband, Richard Galuza, of Blackstone, Mass.; a brother, John Clabby and wife, Connie, of Lewiston; four sisters, Mary Bird of Lewiston, Theresa Card of Lewiston, Patricia Kelley of Turner, and Anne Elizabeth Clabby of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Todd and Timothy Galuza, and Stephen II, Kerry and Emily Terpstra; three great-grandchildren, Alexis and Tyler Terpstra, and Mila Galuza; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and former husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard and Francis Clabby; and two sisters, Marguerite Chandonette and Catherine Landry.
