NORWAY — Volunteers led by Rocky Crockett, garden director, built a new pavilion to house future workshops, meals, performances, and other gatherings at the Alan Day Community Garden.

Jim Sysko of Newry drew up the plans in 2014 after the Garden received a grant from the New England Grassroots Environment Fund.

Late in the 2014 growing season, foundation posts were set in the ground. Alan Robbins milled the lumber in Norway. The post-and-beam pavilion was raised with help from Shawn Kane, who loaned his tools and his expertise; long-time supporter and former Board member, Alex Miller, added timber frame experience; and a group of students from Hebron Academy pitched in.

The ADCG Board of Directors hosted a luncheon to say thank-you to the volunteers on Dec. 13.

“This pavilion represents this community,” said President Katey Branch in her remarks that day. “It was built by the community, for the community, and so many people contributed in many different ways.”

With additional funds raised during the Light the Garden event in June, the Garden was able to create a very sturdy and beautiful shelter.
