TURNER — Fire tore through a warehouse on Conant Road on Friday morning, mostly destroying the building and the tractors, equipment and lumber inside, Fire Chief Rodney Guptil said.
No one was inside the Bisson Transportation warehouse when the fire erupted, he said, and there were no injuries.
The cause is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Guptil said the 50- by 200-foot metal building is owned by Kurt Youland of Turner. Damage was estimated at $200,000, including contents, he said.
The call came in at 10:46 a.m., according to an Androscoggin County sheriff’s deputy at the scene. Tanker trucks hauled water well into the afternoon, and a backhoe tore apart the walls and dug into piles of smoldering material.
According to a former employee at the scene, lumber, tractors and other equipment were among the items stored in the warehouse. Guptil said some items were not damaged.
The building is insured, he said.
At least 12 departments responded to the fire, including Turner, Livermore and Livermore Falls, Minot, Wales, Sabattus, Hebron, West Paris, Greene, Buckfield, Leeds and Canton.
