MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Community Players has announced audition dates and information for its 2015-16 production of “The 39 Steps.”

The Tony Award-winning play is adapted by Patrick Barlow and based on the novel by John Buchan.

It is billed as follows: Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have “The 39 Steps,” a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre. “The 39 Steps” is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters, an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance. The production will run from April 15-24 in the opera hall of historic Cumston Hall, and will be directed by Artistic Director Adam P. Blais.

Auditions will be at 6:30 p.m. both Sunday and Monday, Jan. 24 and 25, at Opera Hall of Cumston Hall, 796 Main St.

All individuals interested in auditioning should prepare a comic monologue of their choice. Individuals will also be asked to take part in cold readings from the script. Individuals should also bring a list of rehearsal conflicts, a ballad, or an up-tempo song from “Into the Woods” in the part they wish to be considered for.

The four available roles include:

Richard Hannay: (30-40) The daring, leading man of the show. He is charming, innocent and charismatic. The actor must possess great endurance and superb comic timing. Standard British dialect.

Annabelle Schmidt/Pamela/Margaret: (25-35) A paranoid German spy, a lower-class Scottish farmer’s wife and the upper class, British romantic, lead of the show. This actress must have excellent comic timing and great versatility. Multiple dialects.

Man #1 and Man #2: (30-40) Plays multiple characters, sometimes simultaneously. This role calls for exceptional physical and verbal comic ability. The actor must be able to provide multiple dialects and be highly athletic with great endurance and focus.
