1938 – 2016

LEWISTON — Florence A. Croteau, 77, of Garfield Road, Auburn, died on Monday night, Jan. 4, at Central Maine Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Florence was born in Lewiston on March 2, 1938, a daughter of the late Emile and Ida (Gauthier) Belanger. She was educated in Lewiston and worked many years in the shoe industry, including Striderite where she was a top stitcher.

She met her husband, Normand, on Taylor Pond at the age of 16 and married him when she was 18. They resided on Taylor Pond for the last 45 years.

Florence enjoyed going “up to camp” in Rockwood where she successfully shot a moose on her last hunting trip. She also enjoyed fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, boating and using her watercraft. She especially enjoyed the annual lobster feed with family and friends.

Florence is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Normand Croteau of Auburn; her daughter, Diane and husband, Mark Laliberte, of Leeds; her son, Gary and wife, Tina, of Auburn; and son, Michael and wife, Dawn, of Auburn. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Broch, Justin, Daja, Dominique, Emily and Cole; as well as two (soon to be three) great-grandchildren; two brothers, Emile and Paul; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, Jackie and Marie.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Lorraine and Jane; and a nephew, Ronnie.
