FARMINGTON — Organizations across the MaineHealth system are launching Food Fight!, a battle of fruit and vegetable recipes and a friendly competition among MaineHealth member organizations.

The MaineHealth Food Fight! is a way to highlight healthy eating by sharing recipes that feature local fruits and vegetables. In Franklin County, Franklin Community Health Network is seeking healthy recipes featuring cabbage. Recipes can be a salad, soup, dessert or side dish. To get involved, submit your best cabbage recipe in the form at www.MaineHealthFoodFight.com.

The panel that will judge FCHN’s cabbage recipe submissions in February include Scott Foster and Katie Drouin, members of food service; Molly Clark of Let’s Go!; Lorri Brown and Susan Carlton, members of the WOW Council; Jolene Libby in administration; and Jill Gray in marketing.

Once selected, the top two recipes will be prepared and served in the Franklin Memorial Hospital Healthy Heart Café in March. Cafeteria attendees will have the chance to taste and vote for their favorite dish. The dish with the most votes will advance to the final round.

Other MaineHealth organizations involved in Food Fight! and their respective fruit or vegetable include: HomeHealth Visiting Nurses, mushrooms; LincolnHealth, pumpkin; MaineHealth Accountable Care Organization, tomatoes; MaineHealth corporate, potatoes; Maine Behavioral Healthcare, beets; Maine Medical Center, broccoli; Memorial Hospital, kale; NorDx, carrots; Pen Bay Medical Center, apples; Southern Maine Health Care, winter squash; Synernet, parsnips; Waldo County General Hospital, blueberries; and Western Maine Health, spinach.

The final round is a tasting event and celebration from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at MaineHealth on 110 Free St., Portland. All MaineHealth member organizations will come together to sample the top recipes from each organization. All of the winning recipes will be prepared by a catering company and attendees will vote on which one takes the top spot. Judging also includes taste-testing by a panel of local celebrity judges.
