VFW to host pork supper

PARIS — VFW Post  9787 will host a pork supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at 58 Lower Main St.

Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for kids 12 and younger. 

Free meal for senior citizens

DIXFIELD — The Dirigo National Honor Society will host a free meal for senior citizens from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, in the SCC at Dirigo High School.

The annual event will include turkey or ham, potato and gravy, veggies, rolls, dessert and coffee.

Hope Association holding fundraiser 

RUMFORD — The Hope Association will hold a fundraiser, Thirty-One Bags in 29 Days. For February, the association will draw the names of those who purchase a calendar from Hope Association to win a bag. 

All proceeds go to supporting the connection between the individuals and their community at Hope Association. Winners will be announced in the newsletter and on the association’s Facebook page.

Hand gun training offered in Wilton

WILTON — The Wilton Fish and Game Association has filled the handgun training class scheduled for Feb. 27.

It will offer another basic handgun training under the instruction of Sheriff Scott Nichols from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the association on Route 2.

Students 21 and older must bring their own handgun unloaded in a holster with at least 50 rounds of ammunition along with hearing and eye protection. No magnums are allowed on the indoor range.

There will be 10 students a class so that there is adequate instruction per student. Participants are asked to preregister and pay a $20 class fee by Saturday, March 12.

After the first class is filled, there will be a tentative class in February depending on interest.

Voices of the Valley calls for singers

RUMFORD — Voices of the Valley, a singing competition open to all ages, is seeking competitors to perform Saturday, March 19, at the Mountain Valley High School.

Three categories are youth (ages 6 through 12), teen (ages 13 to 18) and adult (18 and older).

Each category has the opportunity to win $100 for first place and $50 for second place. Winners of each category will then face off for the trophy and an additional $100 cash prize.

Application forms may be picked up at Davis Florist, 138 Congress St., or from Leeanne Virgin at Mountain Valley High School.
