1936 – 2016

NORWAY — Janice S. Hill, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 17, at the Norway Center for Health & Rehabilitation.

She was born in Rumford Corner on Nov. 26, 1936, a daughter of Roland S. and Thelma (Bessey) Stearns. She was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1955.

She was formerly of Rumford and Bethel, most of her life. She had also spent three years in Texas and a year in Germany with her son, Jeffrey and family.

She was a personal care provider for several years, and then was assistant librarian at the Bethel Library until her retirement.

Janice was a member of the Purity Rebecca Lodge No. 102, OES in Bethel, and she attended Bethel Alliance Church. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and knitting. She especially loved being with her family and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her dog, “Petu.” She also loved playing cards and Scrabble.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey of California; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra Clement and her husband, Mike, of Andover; and a brother, Richard Stearns and his wife, Betty, of Rumford Corner; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Cack Bean of South Paris.

She was predeceased by two sons, Dale and Ryan Smith; and a brother, Benton Monk.
