1948 – 2016

AUBURN — Joseph Herbert Marks, 67, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 24, at the Hospice House.

He was born in Middletown, Conn., on June 1, 1948, the son of the late Herbert and Helen (Denert) Marks.

On Nov. 4, 1972, Joseph married his beloved Marian (Keegan) Marks, and they shared 43 loving years of marriage. At the young age of 13, he started his first job at a plant nursery and worked continually with various jobs until his retirement. While still in college and immediately after graduation, he was supervisor of the Connecticut department of tourism information centers and executive secretary of the Connecticut chapter of FFA (Future Farmers of America).

Joseph moved to the Wales area from Connecticut after retiring in 1994. After moving to Maine, his working spirit had not faded; he worked in the Wal-Mart sporting goods department for eight years. During his lifetime, Joseph belonged to many groups, clubs and organizations including, alumni of the University of Connecticut, brother of Alpha Gamma Rho, Audubon Society, Joshua Chamberlain Civil War Roundtable, Nature Conservancy and the Sharon Land Trust in Sharon, Conn., and lifetime member of the National Wildlife Federation. Joseph still shared close friendships of nearly 50 years.
