LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women has announced its February programming.

Food dollars: 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Feb. 3. Women may discuss and share ways to save money, budget and stretch food dollars.

Peasant Pantry Café: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4. The Peasant Pantry Café features one-pot sustainable meals from different countries. This month, the dish will be Frijoles Egroconarroz, a Latin dish with rice and beans. The meal is open to the public at no charge, and donations are welcome.

What’s Cooking — Valentine chocolate pretzels: 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5. The center and participants will make Valentine chocolate pretzels.

Vitamin D: 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8. This wellness class will discuss the importance of Vitamin D and why women need the vitamin.

Mardi Gras fashion show: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9. This fashion show will display outfits from free, handed-down clothing.

What’s Cooking — Bread from scratch: All day, Wednesday, Feb. 10. The center will lead a class on bread-making from scratch. In between risings, participants may make Valentine cards.

Valentine party: 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11. The annual Valentine party will include cookie-baking and card-making.

Volunteer appreciation: Friday, Feb. 12. The annual We Love Our Volunteers party will celebrate the volunteers who work at the front desk, provide housekeeping and offer hospitality at the center.

Poetry: 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Feb. 16. Auburn teacher Karen Letourneau will offer a class with poetry reading and writing.

Nutritional needs: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17. This wellness presentation will include information about women’s nutritional needs for every decade.

Bingo: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23.

Art Van: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23.

February Birthday Celebration: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24. February birthdays will be celebrated.

Clothing giveaway: Thursday, Feb. 25. The center will hold a clothing give-away during a day-long event. 

Leap Day fun day: Monday, Feb. 29. the center will offer activities for a Leap Day fun day.

The center’s hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. In the event of inclement weather during winter months, the center will close when local schools close. The center will be closed Monday, Feb. 15, in observance of President’s Day and Friday, Feb. 26, for the annual Companion Retreat. 

All women are welcome; programs are offered free and no appointments are needed. Oatmeal breakfasts are available daily, and the center has a shower.

The Center is also seeking volunteer applicants for companions. The companion role requires women to have a professional background in social work, teaching, nursing, chaplaincy or other related fields, and companions work with local women. The commitment is a half-day weekly. Those interested should contact Executive Director Klara Tammany at 207-513-3922.
