Church turkey dinner canceled

PARIS — The roast turkey dinner scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Deering Memorial Methodist Church, Main and Church streets, has been canceled.

Legion to celebrate Super Bowl

RUMFORD — The Rumford American Legion will have a pre-Super Bowl Party Potluck at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6.

Those attending should bring a favorite Super Bowl dish. There will be games and give-aways. The event is open to members and guests.

PHILLIPS — Down the Dirt Road Band, featuring Travis Pinkham, will be playing from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Phillips Area Community Center (the old gym), Depot Street.

Tickets are $10, with admission at the door. The band will play a mixture of country and classic rock.

Introduction to Chakras set

BETHEL — “Harness Your Internal Energy System: an Introduction to Chakras” will be held at 3:30 and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, through SAD 44 Adult Education. 

Emily Ecker, LCSW, polarity therapist, will be the instructor.

Chakra is a Sanskrit word (from India) meaning wheel, or vortex, and it refers to each of the seven energy centers in the body. Chakras help to regulate processes in the body, from organ function, the immune system to emotional well being.

Participants will learn about each primary chakra and how it correlates with specific physical, mental and emotional aspects of the body. Gentle breath and movements will be taught to clear, balance and energize the chakras.

CPR, first aid class in Oxford

OXFORD — There will be a CPR and first aid class at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Oxford Public Safety Building.

Participants will learn basic first aid, adult, child and Infant CPR and the use of an AED. On successful completion of the one-day class, they will receive a two-year certification in accordance with the American Heart Association.

The certificate course is accepted for daycare, loggers, guides, teachers and any other nonhealthcare-related professions.

Groups may also request to schedule a class at their location and convenience.

The next class will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 5.

Healthcare BLS CPR recertification is done as needed one on one. Call to schedule.

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Jan. 29 in the Recreation Building, King Street, where a 5½ table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in flight A were Dotty Kelleher and Mike True; second, Norma and Rick Verrill, who also were first in flight B; third, Neanie Kivus and David Lock; fourth, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings, who also were second in flight B; third in flight B, Arlen Riis and Elaine Dresser, who also were first in flight C; fourth in B, Denny Raymond and Jim Dickens, who also were second in flight C; third in C, Milt McKeen Jr. and Jim Krainin; fourth, Karen Mac Neill and Carol Curran.

There will be another game, same time and place, on Friday, Feb. 5. All bridge players are invited, and a partner is guaranteed.
