1943 – 2016

Watervliet, N.Y. — Janice Constance (Ward) Chass, 72, devoted wife of Thomas Chass, died on Thursday, Jan. 7, at the Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.

Janice was born in Lewiston on Oct. 10, 1943, to the late Earl R. and Edna Mae (Fogg) Ward. Raised in North Monmouth, she was a graduate of the Monmouth Academy and later furthered her education in medical technology.

Janice resided in Schenectady, N.Y., for a number of years and following her marriage to Thomas, moved to Watervliet where she had resided for the past 30 years. She was employed as a technician in the neurology department of the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady for many years.

Janice was an active member of the Watervliet Methodist Church where she volunteered her time to many of the church activities. She enjoyed spending her summer months at Caroga Lake.

In addition to her loving husband, Janice is survived by her son, Jerry Davis of North Carolina; four sisters, Ava Mason and her husband, Robert, of Litchfield, Anne Wallace of North Monmouth, Barbara Crocker of Augusta, and Beverly Ward of Winthrop; and one brother, Allan Ward and his wife, Christina, of North Monmouth. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Suzanne Ward of North Monmouth and Caryl Ward of Seabrook, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

Janice was predeceased by her daughter, Mindy Sue Davis; her sister, Mary Foss; and her brothers, Donald, David and Ernest Ward.
