NEW SHARON — A local woman is facing drug charges after a state trooper stopped a truck on Route 2 in which she was a passenger and found prescription drugs and marijuana in it and at her residence.

Trooper Randy Hall arrested Shaina Shaylin-Begin, 54, of New Sharon on Jan. 29 on felony charges of two counts of possession of a scheduled W drug and one felony count of possession of a scheduled Z drug. She was also charged with three misdemeanors of possession of scheduled X drugs, Hall said.

A conviction on each of the felony charges is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Hall stopped a pickup truck near Tuttles Auto Sales for an expired sticker and noticed a lot of movement in the vehicle, he said. When he made contact with the driver, Ivan Davis, 28, of Vienna, he noticed a white powdery substance on his right nostril. Hall said he could also smell the odor of green marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A Bureau of Motor Vehicles check revealed that Davis’ license was suspended and he was given civil traffic summons for operating after suspension, Hall said.

A search of the truck revealed Percocet pills, prepackaged in groups of 10, prednisone pills, and an entire unlabeled pill bottle filled with Adderall, Hall said. There were also used cut straws and other drug paraphernalia, he said.

On the way to the Franklin County jail in Farmington, Hall said, Shaylin-Begin admitted to having more drugs on her person. There were 16 more Percocet pills inside the front of both socks.

A search warrant executed at her home in New Sharon revealed more scales, 2.5 pounds of marijuana, more pills and paraphernalia, Hall said.

Hall was assisted by Maine State Police Sgt. Bernard Brunette and Sgt. Blaine Bronson, and Troopers Jesse Duda, Scott Duff, Keith Barton and Trooper Recruit Eric Ward.
