LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will offer American Red Cross lifeguard training from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb 16, 17 and 18.

The course teaches students the knowledge and skills essential to prevent, and if necessary, respond to aquatic emergencies appropriately. The course includes American Red Cross CPR/AED for professional rescuers and standard first aid.

Participants must be at least age 15 and complete a 300-yard swim, timed deep-water object removal prerequisite to starting the course and treading water for two minutes without using hands.

The prerequisite test will take place on the first day of class. Staff encouraged all registrants to go to the YWCA for free during open swim times to prepare for the prerequisite test.

Members of the YWCA pay $275 for the class and nonmembers pay $300. Space is limited and registrations need to be in by Friday, Feb. 12.
