MILLINGTON, Tenn. — U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Cody Donovan of Lisbon Falls and a graduate of Lisbon High School, serving aboard the USS Green Bay (LPD 20), has earned a Sailor of the Week Award.

The award recognizes superior performance of enlisted personnel emphasizing outstanding achievements, exemplary personal conduct and military bearing and demonstrated initiative in the performance of duty. The program also motivates personnel to strive for improvement in their assigned duties and leadership.

“I feel like I’m receiving recognition for all of the hard work I’ve been putting forth,” said Donovan.

As a cryptologic technician, Donovan performs a wide range of tasks in support of intelligence gathering, with an emphasis on cryptology and signal intelligence related products.

“I am temporarily assigned to the engineering department,” said Donovan. “In this role I help maintain the damage control readiness for the ship.

“Serving in the Navy has helped me become more mature and responsible,” said Donovan. “I’ve learned how to take initiative in order to complete a task at hand, safely, with minimal error.”

Donovan’s commanding officer said he’s proud of the hard work and dedication that he has exemplified and he definitely notices that it rubs off on the other Sailors within the command.

“Petty Officer Donovan has had huge impact on ensuring that Green Bay is combat ready for Seventh Fleet operations,” said Capt. Kristy McCallum, Donovan’s commanding officer. “Whether working in his rate as a cryptologic technician, or helping the ship with damage control equipment maintenance, I have the highest confidence that he will get the job done right the first time. He inspires his shipmates with his can do attitude and his relentless pursuit of advanced qualifications. Petty Officer Donovan is an outstanding Sailor with unlimited potential and I look forward to watching him excel in his Navy career.”

Currently in Sasebo, Japan, USS Green Bay is an amphibious transport dock ship attached to the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group and forward deployed to the 7th Fleet area of operations.

Donovan’s mother, Kimberly Donovan, resides in Lisbon Falls and his father, Randy Donovan, resides in Lewiston. Donovan is a graduate of Lisbon High School.
