Mystery photo for February 14, 2016
In a random drawing, Linda Fontaine Howe of Bethel was chosen as the winner of last week’s mystery photo. She, along with many of the other entrants, had memories and stories about the photo’s location. In her email entry, Howe wrote, “The mystery photo in Sunday’s edition is located at 310 Main Street in Mexico, Maine. I grew up in the block that is located behind the restaurant. It is a restaurant called Ridlonville Diner. It has a 1950s retro theme. Back in the late ’50s it was called Mary’s Diner. Then Mary’s daughter opened a sandwich shop called Maddy’s Pizza. The shop changed hands from Maddy Lauzier to her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Greg Arsenault. That building has been in the food business for decades and continues to feed folks with the present Ridlonville Diner owned by Clyde Wardwell.” There is presently a “CLOSED” sign on the window. Several other entrants reported that Wardwell is expanding the seating area and has plans to reopen in the near future.
