FARMINGTON — Farmington Parks and Recreation did not give up its efforts to open the Hippach Field ice rink — despite warmer-than-normal temperatures earlier this winter — and the rink is now open.

According to the recreation department, the ice looks like glass and will remain open for February vacation and beyond, as long as the weather cooperates.

People can skate at any time, but the warming hut is only open during specific hours. The warming hut hours are from noon to 9 p.m. on weekends, and from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday are hockey nights. Hot chocolate is offered in the warming hut for 50 cents a cup.

The department has over 20 pairs of skates for free use. Sizes range from those for 4-year-old children to adult sizes. Extra hockey sticks and pond hockey nets are also available.

After the sun goes down, the rink will be lit for night-time skating and music will be played through the loudspeakers.
