RANGELEY — Firefighters spent a couple of hours early Tuesday removing water from the Banquet Room at Rangeley Inn & Tavern on Main Street after a sprinkler pipe broke.
A pipe froze and when it thawed it split the riser on the sprinkler system, Rangeley Fire/Rescue Chief Tim Pellerin said.
Firefighters responded to the call at 1:02 a.m.
Ceiling tiles, the carpet and other flooring were soaked and damaged. Water was running down the walls and out of some electrical outlets, he said.
Firefighters used vacuums and squeegees to remove the water and cleaned up the ceiling tiles.
“It took us about two hours,” he said.
The damage was contained to the Banquet Room. The property is insured.
Inn owner Travis Ferland renovated the historic property after he bought it at auction for $800,000 a few years ago. During the renovations, a new sprinkler system was installed.
Ferland was not immediately available for comment.
