LISBON — The Town Council voted 6-0 Tuesday to use the new Lisbon High School gym as the sole polling place because it’s more efficient and convenient.
The school is at 2 Sugg Drive in Lisbon Falls.
The town has previously used the Central Office on Gartley Street and the MTM Community Center on School Street for residents to cast ballots.
Also Tuesday, the council scheduled three public hearings for March 1 to:
• Change the annual fee for indoor flea markets from $400 to $200 and for outdoor flea markets from $400 to $100. The council voted 6-0 to recommend the changes.
• Allow alcohol in town parks, with advanced approval by the Town Council, for special public events or public gatherings sponsored by a charitable, nonprofit organization, or civic groups that have alcohol served by a licensed establishment with an off-premise catering license. Councilors Allen Ward and Norm Albert said they want the council to consider allowing commercial businesses the same privilege, once liability and insurance issues are investigated.
• Consolidate the Trails Commission with the Conservation Commission. The council voted 6-0 to recommend the change.
The council also voted 6-0 to:
• Recommend a new section to the town fee schedule that would include cemetery and library fees. It would include new fees of $325 to replace the library telescope if a patron breaks it, and $110 to replace the new microscope.
• Write off personal property taxes of $4,035 owed by Casa Mia Inc. and $1,682 owed by T&A Variety because of bankruptcy or dissolution of a corporation.
• Authorize Town Manager Diane Barnes to sign a renewal agreement with Coastal Humane Society, effective Jan. 1 to June 30.
• Approve Fire Chief Sean Galipeau’s request to solicit bids for a new SUV and explore prices for new and used three-quarter-ton 4×4 pickup trucks. The latter would replace a vehicle that was retired three years ago. Councilor Roger Bickford suggested looking into state surplus vehicles before purchasing a new one.
• Approve a three-month extension of the Durham Dispatch Contract for a prorated amount of $2,866 and authorize the town manager to sign the agreement.
• Accept a $16,350 bid from Fern Larochelle and Nate Morse for property on Parillo Street.
