WILTON — Police said a local man is accused of breaking into his girlfriend’s home, damaging property and preventing her from calling for help.

Joseph McKenna, 45, was arrested Sunday by Wilton police officer Brian Lynch on charges of burglary, domestic violence criminal mischief, domestic violence terrorizing and obstructing the report of a crime, Police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.

After McKenna was asked to leave his girlfriend’s Main Street residence, he came back and broke a window in the door to get back in, she said. The girlfriend was scared for her safety but was not harmed, Wilcox said. He damaged the door, a stove and a vase of flowers, and prevented her from calling for help, she said.

McKenna made an initial court appearance Tuesday and was returned to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington, according to a jail officer.
