1946 – 2016

LEWISTON — Elwood “Skip” S. Damon, 69, of Buckfield passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Marshwood Nursing Home.

He was born in Lewiston on Nov. 17, 1946, the son of Norman and Frances Gesner Damon. He graduated from Buckfield High School in 1965 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1966, where he served with the Seabees in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969.

Elwood married Elaine Jordan on July 25, 1970. He had been employed at Wilner Wood Products and General Electric, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed building street rods and was well-known for driving fast, souped-up cars. He was a NASCAR fan. He loved children and joking with the staff at Marshwood.

He is survived by his wife of Buckfield; his brother, Ross Damon and Donna; his sisters, Bobby Jean Gates and Barry, Marcia Buswell and Robin, Leah Frechette and Roland; his sisters-in-law, Martha Damon, Alma Jordan and Tom, and Wanda and Linda Jordan; his brothers-in-law, James Jordan and April, and Michael Jordan and Betsey; three aunts, Millie Newton, Marjorie Gesner and Betty Atkinson; “special boys,” Nik Coates, Jared Ames and “Angel Mary and his Marshwood family;” and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Roland and Bradley; brothers-in-law, William and Arthur Jordan; and nephew, Todd.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Marshwood Nursing Home, the Kidney Center in Auburn and many United Ambulance drivers.
