1938 – 2016

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Clifford (Cliff) R. Sagner, 77, of Brewer, and formerly of New Hampshire and Massachusetts, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 17, while on vacation in St. Augustine, Fla., with his love and partner, Marilyn Lavelle.

Cliff grew up in Auburn. After a stint in the U.S. Marines, he attended Bentley College and graduated with a degree in accounting. He then commenced a career as a computer programmer, at High Voltage Corp. and Electronized Chemicals Corp., both in Burlington, Mass. Cliff enjoyed working, until he reached age 72, then retired to Maine where he and Marilyn enjoyed a life of travel, friends and many activities.

In high school, Cliff was a member of the swim team, specializing in diving. Throughout his life he remained active, enjoying hockey, swimming, softball, downhill skiing and motorcycling. Cliff loved playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, dancing and traveling with his best friend, Marilyn. He was a man who worked hard and could be relied on as a friend. He will be remembered as a good man and a lover of life.

In addition to Marilyn, he leaves his daughter, Lauren (Gerry) Espe of West Boylston, Mass.; son, Don (and fiancée, Alexandra) of Arlington, Mass.; and daughter, Judy (Jim) Cooney of Lakeville, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Bill, Ian, Nicole, Peter, Caroline and Jackson; and one great-grandchild, Benjamin; siblings, Ron (Donna) Sagner, and Patti (Bill) Dyer; sister-in-law, Adrain (Richard) Sagner; and many nieces and nephews. His extended family includes, Jonathan (Leslie) Lavelle, Susan Benavides, Jeremy (Ana) Lavelle, Jeffrey Lavelle and grandchildren, Jared, Sydney, Catherine, Anthony, Joshua, Jacob, Gabriella and Joseph.

He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Dorothy Sagner; and his brother, Richard.
