NORWAY —  John E. Marshall, 80, of Norway, passed away peacefully on Feb. 29, 2016, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, surrounded by family, feeling very loved.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1936, in Bethel, the son of Everett and Elva P. Marshall. He graduated from Norway High School in 1953 and attended Bryant and Stratton Business College before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Millett, in 1955 and they enjoyed 61 years together.

While serving in the Air Force from 1954-1958, he was assigned to the Airborne Early Warning System, primarily patrolling the East Coast. After serving in the Air Force, he worked at Aldrich Motors and then was self-employed at Marshall’s Flying A, later becoming Marshall’s Getty Station as a self-proclaimed “Petroleum Transfer Engineer.” For many years he went out to greet his customers with a spring in his step and a smile on his face. Later he worked for Power Equipment as a sales representative, travelling over Northern New England. He retired from Irving Oil in 1992, and after retirement worked part time at Bessey Motors as a delivery driver.

After retiring, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall made their “camp” at North Pond their permanent home, where he spent many hours watching activities on the pond, and the eagles, loons and turtles on the “Turtle Log.” He thoroughly enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, camping on the Maine Coast and woodworking. He had many interesting hunting stories to share with all, as well as his love of the outdoors. He and many of his friends established the early snowmobile trails in Norway, many that are still in use today.

Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn; three daughters, Beth and Michael Abbott, Patricia and George Rice and Barbara Brunjes and partner Steve McAllister; six grandchildren, Brandon and Christine Abbott, Melissa Abbott, Derek McAllister, Niki and Eric Reynolds and Nicholas and Jarod Brunjes; five great-granddaughters and a great-grandson soon to arrive; brothers–in-law, Leland Millett Jr. and Elwyn and Nancy Millett; sister–in-law, Hope Millett; several cousins and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, and sisters, Marilyn Toher and Elizabeth Swan.

In honor of Mr. Marshall and his love for his family, take a little extra time to show appreciation to your family and loved ones, and enjoy the good times.

At his request, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time. Arrangements are under the care of The Fortin Group Funeral Home, Cremation and Monument Services, Lewiston. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.thefortingrouplewiston.
