BANGOR — Region 9 School of Applied Technology students Mackenzie Houghton and Lynda Theriault will represent the state of Maine and Region 9 at the Skills USA National Competition in Kansas City, Mo., in June.

The two early childhood education students took the gold medal in promotional bulletin board at the Maine State Skills USA Championships in Bangor on March 3 and 4.

The two are now working hard to raise money for their trip.

Other Region 9 students that competed were Blair Stevens in job skills demonstration; Jonathan Labelle in fire science, capturing fourth-place honors; Alisha Fortuner, capturing fifth place in early childhood education; Jahmai Bartlett and Sam Berry in precision machining; Keith Harrington in diesel equipment; Kevin Cogley in automotive service; Tim Haas in fire science; and Will Bishop in job interview.

Skills advisers are Jen and Pete Barlow.
