1930 – 2016

AUBURN — Lionel C. Freeman Sr., 85, died Friday, March 25, at Clover Health Care in Auburn. He was a resident of Route 108 in Rumford.

Born in Rumford on July 6, 1930, he was a son of Lawrence D. and Laura L. (Bernard) Freeman. He attended Rumford schools. Lionel worked for Boise Cascade in the chemical control department for more than 43 years until his retirement. For a time, he worked for Joe Dubois Ambulance and Livery Service and the Meader & Son Funeral Home.

Lionel was a member of the Knights of Pythias in Mexico; he enjoyed spending time outdoors, working around the house with his wife; working with his tractor, woodworking and playing with his dog, “Trixie.” He was a member of the Rumford First Baptist Church.

Lionel was proudly married in Mexico on Aug. 1, 1950, to Mary Ellen Zinck who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include two sons, Ellsworth Freeman and his wife, Rebecca, of Andover and Douglas Freeman and his companion, Cheryl Jackson, of Rumford; daughters, Jacqueline Ronan and her husband, Linwood, of Rumford, Brenda Pelletier of Rumford, Cynthia Pelletier and her companion, Murray Putnam, of East Dixfield; and a special thanks to his daughter, Pamela Do and her husband, Ai, and their children of Rumford for years of dedicated caretaking. He also is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sons, David and Lionel Freeman Jr.; and a daughter, Debra Sue Freeman.
