Legion hosting public breakfast

AUBURN — American Legion Post No. 31 will host a public breakfast from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Sunday, April 3, at 236 Washington St. North.

Menu includes eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, hash, blueberry pancakes, beans, biscuits and gravy, pastries, toast, juice and coffee.

Admission costs $5, and there will be a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds will benefit veteran programs.

New Auburn Seniors to meet

AUBURN — New Auburn Seniors will meet at noon Monday, April 4, at Sacred Heart Church.

The meeting will be followed by lunch and bingo. Lunch will be Chinese chop suey at a cost of $5. The meetings are held the first Monday of the month.

Open bingo for seniors will be held March 14 and 28, April 11 and 25 and May 9 and 23.

Those seniors who did not receive a 2016 coffee cup may bring their old one any Monday and have it filled for 62 cents.

Annual chili, chowder event in April

LEWISTON — The 13th annual Chili & Chowder Taste Challenge will take place Tuesday, April 5, at the Ramada Conference Center, 490 Pleasant St.

The event will benefit the Gov. James B. Longley Elementary School and the Green Ladle Scholarship Fund.

Chili and chowder from area restaurants will be ready for tasting, and attendees will vote for a favorite in the People’s Choice Award.

The first 100 people will receive a set of pot holders. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the awards will be presented at 7:30.

Tickets cost $10 per person, or $5 for children younger than 10. They are sold at the door and in advance until April 4 at Longley Elementary School, Sun Journal, Lewiston Regional Technical Center and participating restaurants.

CMHVI heart failure presentations

LEWISTON — Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute will offer a two-part Accenting Your Health presentation titled “Pump It Up: Living With Heart Failure.”

Session one, “What is Heart Failure and How Do You Manage it?” is on April 5.

Session two, “Keys to Healthy Eating, Staying Active and Coping Effectively” is on April 12.

Both sessions take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the first-floor conference room in the Young wing, located at 60 High St.

These educational sessions are for those who have been diagnosed with heart failure, as well as for those who provide support for someone with the condition.

The presentations are free. Interpreter services available upon request.

Cribbage league lists winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners on March 24 were, first place, George Bussierre and Ed Madden; second, Dick Dennis and Diane Torres; third, Betty Ames and Gene Brown; fourth, Jim Burgess and Don Haley; and, fifth, Roland Bosse and Mickie Farnum.

Seniors play on Thursdays at the Lewiston Memorial Armory.
