Retired teachers to meet

AUBURN — Androscoggin Area Retired Teachers’ Association will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Park Avenue Methodist Church.

The cost of the meal is $11 per person. Meal includes chicken, potatoes, vegetables and various pies.

Bill Babb, a retired educator, will talk on Masons on a Mission. Jean Roy will conduct a remembrance ceremony to honor departed colleagues.

FFRF Maine meeting April 9

BRUNSWICK — The monthly meeting of the Freedom From Religion Foundation Maine chapter will be from 9:30 to noon on Saturday, April 9, at the Curtis Memorial Library.

Current discussion topic is “Should religion be taught in public schools?”

Meetings are informal and many attendees go to lunch together after the meeting.

Texas Hold’em April 9

AUBURN — There will be a Texas Hold’em poker tournament Saturday, April 9, at American Legion Post No. 31, 426 Washington St. North. 

Doors open at 11 a.m., and the start time is noon. 

The entry fee is $45 with an optional high hand. Lunch will be available.

Scholarships offered to Lisbon area students

LISBON — Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union is offering four $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors.

The scholarships are awarded based on academic achievements as well as community involvement. Award money is paid directly to the schools after students complete their first semesters.

To be eligible to apply for the scholarship program, a student must be a graduating senior; be a member of or child of a member of the credit union; have a high school GPA of 2.50 or higher; be accepted to a two- or four-year accredited postsecondary school; and begin studies within one year of the award

Applications are available online at www.lisboncu.org, at the Credit Union, or at the guidance office of local high schools.

Deadline is May 2.

Bridge club lists winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners on March 22 were, first place, Tom Goodwin and Mike True; second, Nancy Lindgren and Claire Lyons; and third, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings.

Winners of the quarterly club championship on March 28 were, first, Rosemarie Goodwin and Paul Clements; second, Jan and Vern Arey; third, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; and fourth/fifth tie, Marta Clements and Bob Kirchherr with Nancy Lindgren and Les Buzzell.

Winners of the quarterly club championship on March 29 were, first, David Lock and Mike Quinn; and second/third tie, Jan and Vern Arey with Les Buzzell and Paul Clement.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and Tuesdays in the Seniors’ Room at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. A partner is always guaranteed and all bridge players are welcomed.
