100 years ago, 1916
George O. Campbell, who has been in charge of the delivery of parcel post in Lewiston, has been appointed permanently to this job, the appointment taking effect today. In the near future, Mr. Campbell plans to use an auto truck. The parcel post has grown with such rapidity that it outstripped first the regular carriers and then the team delivery. Several teams are necessary during the holiday season.

50 years ago, 1966
The outlook for any good fishing today, the opening day of the season in this section of Maine, “is about as poor as any in recent years that I can remember,” Game Warden Harry Kearney of Turner said Thursday night. Kearney said some of the lakes have a little open water showing along the shore lines but hardly enough to drop a line into with any expectation of results. At Lake Auburn a small amounts of open water is visible along the shore and at the causeway at East Auburn. According to Kearney, the outlook for the immediate future should be brighter. He said that if present weather conditions continue there should he an early iceout this year.

25 years ago, 1991
A new fund-raiser called “Bingo Bash” will be held Sunday to help defray expenses for the upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations of St. Dominic Regional High School. Participants will he able to play Bingo nearly all day at three Lewiston locations, the Lewiston Knights of Columbus Hall, St. Peter’s School and St. Mary’s Parish hall. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. Three full sessions with state limits in prizes and winner-take-all are scheduled for 12:15 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 3:45 p.m. at St. Peter’s and 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s.
