1924 – 2016

AUGUSTA — Elwood Leonard Campbell, 91, formerly of Phillips and most recently of Kingfield, passed away on Thursday, March 31, at the Togus VA Hospital in Augusta.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1924, in Phillips, the son of Clarence and Ezma (Springer) Campbell. He was educated in the schools of Phillips. From 1943 to 1945, Elwood served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat engineer, being stationed in Germany.

On Nov. 13, 1947, he married Madeline Hinkley and she predeceased him on April 2, 1992.

Over the years, Elwood was self-employed as a painter and a handyman. He was a member of the Phillips Congregational Church.

He is survived by his grandson, Brent Adams; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline Campbell; his daughter, Lorna Adams; his sons, Leonard Campbell and Larry Campbell; and his brother, Azel Campbell.
