1935 – 2016

LEWISTON – Saul L. Schwind, 81, passed away on Friday, April 8, at the Central Maine Medical Center with his family by his side. He resided in Rumford.

Saul was born in Rumford on Jan. 23, 1935, the son of Philip and Katherine (Arsenault) Schwind. He attended schools in Rumford and graduated from Gould Academy in 1953 and the University of Maine in 1958. Saul, along with his father, owned and operated Isrealson Motor Co. in Rumford for more than 28 years.

On April 18, 1964, he married Johan West. He enjoyed summers at Roxbury Pond, the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and PI Casino.

Saul was a life member of the Rumford Lodge of Elks No. 862 and the Masonic Lodge of Bethel No. 0300.

Saul is survived by his wife, Johan of Rumford; children, Philip of Concord, Rebecca and her husband, Brian Dunton, of Fayette; grandchildren, Daniel Schwind of Portland, Jacob Dunton of Livermore and Monika Dunton of Greenville, N.C.; sisters, Nancy Schwind of New York and Sylvia Harrington of Bethel; a nephew, Mark Harrington of Bethel; and a special cousin, Claire Marx of Windham.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a son, Stephen.

The family would like to thank the staff of Central Maine Medical Center Intensive Care Unit for their kindness and caring given to Saul and his family.
