LEWISTON — Central Maine Medical Center will sponsor a Diabetes Fair from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, 29 Lowell St.

The fair will feature presentations on lifestyle, cooking and nutrition. A vendor fair will offer the opportunity to learn about diabetes care technology. A blood pressure screening will be offered.

The fair will begin with a presentation by an A1C Champions team comprised of Terry Wiley, who has diabetes, and Darlene Wiley, his wife and care partner. They will share their story about their diabetes journey together.

The Wileys will discuss how it often requires a partnership to face the challenges and successes of the diabetes journey. They will touch upon a number of topics, including: working as a team; controlling blood sugar; effective communication between partners; and how to work together to manage diabetes without it becoming the focus of the relationship.

The fair will also feature licensed clinical social worker Kerry Irish, who will lead a discussion about “Reclaiming Your Life After a Diabetes Diagnosis.”

Registered dietitians and certified diabetes educators Gwen Scott and Jamie Pepin will host a cooking demonstration using everyday recipes to encourage mindful eating.

Endocrinologists Maylene Peralta, MD, and Laura Trask, MD, specialists in treating those with diabetes, will host a question-and-answer session.

The fair is free and open to the public. Participation is limited to 40 people.

FMI, register: 207-795-7520.
