WMPM receives $15k grant

WILTON — Western Maine Play Museum has announced it has received a $15,000 grant from the Betterment Fund.

This gift means only $95,000 remains of the $500,000 fundraising goal for the building’s reconstruction. Exterior renovations are expected to begin this spring.

WMPM has planned several fundraising events this spring, including a Paint + Sip Night at LaFleur’s Restaurant in Jay on Saturday, April 30.

Historical Society to meet

WEST PARIS — West Paris Historical Society will have a potluck supper and business meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 18.

 Library hosting Story Time

NEW SHARON — The Jim Ditzler Memorial Library will offer stories, crafts and snacks during Story Time from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 23.

There will be another Story Time on Saturday, May 21.

Chinese auction for pets

PARIS — A Chinese auction to benefit Responsible Pet Care will be held Saturday, April 23, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. 

Bidding will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and winners will be drawn at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $5, $10 and $20, and there will be bonus tickets.

There will be more than 300 items, and refreshments will be available.

Wine and paint in Jay

JAY — Maine’s Paper and Heritage Museum in Livermore Falls will host a wine and paint night to benefit the museum. 

Participants can paint their own picture Saturday, April 23, at LaFleur’s Restaurant. They may choose between two sessions; 4 to 6 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m.

Tickets cost $25 per person and are on sale at Otis Federal Credit Union until April 22. Food will be available for an additional cost.

Conservation Earth Day cleanup

WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Conservation Commission will host an Earth Day celebration and clean-up day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 23.

Crews will clean up the highway and public places in Woodstock.

Anyone interested should meet at the ball field on Lakeside Drive and bring work gloves and protective vests. Garbage bags will be provided.

Rain date is Saturday, April 30.

RUMFORD — Sons Of Italy will hold its regular meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24, on Route 108.

The meeting will be followed by lunch.

March for Violence-Free Communities

FARMINGTON — Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services will hold its 18th annual March for Violence-Free Communities on Monday, April 25.

Participants will gather at 5:30 p.m. at the gazebo in Meetinghouse Park on Main Street, across from the superior courthouse. Attendees are invited to carry signs, make noise and walk in solidarity to raise awareness of sexual assault, sexual abuse and other forms of violence that exist in the communities.

The March will lead to a Speak Out at the Old South Church, which will provide the opportunity for community members, students, survivors and concerned others to talk about their experiences, feelings and thoughts surrounding issues of violence.

The event is free and open to the public.

Light refreshments will be served.
