LEWISTON — Pat Gardiner was nominated by the Center for Wisdom’s Women for the 2015 Maine Volunteer Roll of Honor Award.

Each nominee had to have volunteered at least 500 hours of service in 2015, and Gardiner exceeded this number.

Gardiner received a certificate from the Maine Commission for Community Service and three tickets to a Portland Sea Dogs game on April 19 in recognition of her volunteerism. As a Roll of Honor nominee, she will participate in a pregame parade on the field during which all of the names of the nominees will be scrolled on the video board.

Gardiner serves two days each week at the center as a volunteer companion.

Gardiner first came as an intern through the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine. She graduated from the institute in 2010 and moved from Brunswick to Lewiston to continue volunteering at the center.

The center is always looking for women to serve as companions. Companions have professional backgrounds in come with a professional backgrounds as social workers, therapists, nurses, chaplains, teachers or similar occupations. The team meets together monthly and has an annual daylong learning retreat. Companions volunteer a half day each week. Those interested may contact Executive Director Klara Tammany.
