LEWISTON — Jessy Kendall is April’s featured Artist of the Month at Wicked Illustrations Studio and Gallery, 140 Canal St.

Displays by Kendall include his alcohol inks on tile, mosaic creations, his Letterfounder zine and his CDs. All of Kendall’s creations link together somehow; poems become songs, art becomes album covers, collaborators become band mates.

Kendall began his zines 12 years ago when he moved from Portland back to Lewiston. He has been publishing one per month ever since. He has published Mainers, as well as people from all over the world.

His music is the result of his efforts in experimental folk outfits he has been part of through the years. The images and style of his alcohol ink tiles lean toward this experimental fun and colorful side. The mosaic pieces are just another addition to an already inspiring body of work.

Kendall is inspired by Fluxus, an international network of artists, composers and designers noted for blending different artistic media and disciplines in the 1960s. He is also inspired by American conceptual artist Barbara Kruger, as well as poet and fiction writer Sean Brendan-Brown.

Kendall’s work will be on display through April. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
