DIXFIELD — Dirigo High School Principal Michael Poulin has announced Emma Leuders of Canton has received the 2016 Principal’s Award.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

“It gives me great pleasure to present this award to Emma. In her four years at Dirigo High School, Emma has been an exemplary student and school citizen,” Poulin said in presenting the award. “Emma is very deserving of this prestigious recognition.”

Leuders, Poulin and other award winners and their principals attended an honors luncheon in Bangor on April 2, where she received her award.

The luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of individual plaques and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, former Maine principals and executive directors of the association.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
