Police have charged two Oxford County residents with drug trafficking after, they say, the two went down to Massachusetts and brought back 600 doses of heroin to resell around western Maine.
Derek Verrill, 26, and Gayle Gilmore, 18, both of Sweden, were arrested late Friday night after Fryeburg police, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Maine Drug Enforcement agents stopped and searched their silver 2007 Toyota Corolla on West Fryeburg Road in Fryeburg.
Police said they had been investigating the pair for the past month and believe Verrill and Gilmore were bringing heroin up from Massachusetts with the intent to sell it throughout the area.
Verrill and Gilmore were charged with felony aggravated trafficking and illegal importation of drugs. Police said the two had 60 grams of heroin — 600 dosages — with a street value of $10,000 to $12,000.
Verrill and Gilmore were taken to the Oxford County Jail. Bail was set at $15,000 cash for Verrill and $5,000 cash for Gilmore.
