1932 – 2016

CANTON — Marylyn Lou Ellis, 83, a longtime resident of Dixfield, died Thursday, April 14, at her daughter’s home in Canton where she had been residing for the last five years, with family by her side.

She was born in Dixfield on May 9, 1932, the daughter of Phillip and Lucien (Louza) Welch. Marylyn attended school in Dixfield. On Aug. 22, 1947, she married her husband of 52 years, Edward B. Ellis, in Dixfield. Marilyn worked at Stowell McGregor in Dixfield. Her greatest and most important job, however, was as a homemaker. She was the heart and backbone of her family. She loved her large family and enjoyed family reunions as well as going to Chinese auctions with family and friends. She loved traveling, gardening and spending time with her family. She will be missed greatly.

She is survived by her eight children, Carolyn Payeur and her husband, Adolphe, of Canton, Edward Ellis and his wife, Janice, of Dixfield, Kenneth Ellis and his wife, Beverly, of Dixfield, Steven Ellis and his wife, Melinda, of Dixfield, Penny Blodgett and her husband, Ernest, of Dixfield, Dean Ellis and his wife, Kimberly, of Canton, Gene Ellis of Dixfield, and Phillip Ellis of Canton; siblings, Juanita Briggs and her husband, Merrill, of Scarborough, and Francis Thurston of Rumford; 35 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; sisters, Barbara Welch and Phyllis Gouin; and a great-granddaughter, Angela Bordeau.
