FARMINGTON — The Old South Congregation Church 2016 concert series will kick off Saturday, April 30, featuring an exciting up-and-coming band that is getting much-deserved recognition. From the foothills of Western Maine comes GoldenOak, a folk group whose genre-blending tendencies have them steadily emerging as a musical force in New England.

Conceived in the winter of 2013 by singer-songwriter Zak Kendall and cellist Seth Wegner, it wasn’t long before they joined forces with Kendall’s sister Lena, whose voice blends with the hum of the cello and guitar to create a sound that resonates deep within. More recently, they have teamed up with their good friend Eloise Schultz, whom Zak and Seth met while studying at College of the Atlantic, and who gives their songs yet another set of layers with her soaring trumpet and vocal harmonies.

Members include Zak Kendall (guitar, lead vocals), Lena Kendall (percussion, lead vocals), Seth Wegner (cello, vocals), and Eloise Schultz (trumpet, vocals). Zak, Lena and Seth are Mt Blue High School graduates and former members of the Franklin County Fiddlers. Their debut album, “Pleasant St.” will be available to purchase the night of the concert.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with pre-concert music provided by Thad Gunther and friends. GoldenOak will take the stage at 7 p.m. Intermission refreshments will be available for a donation.
