BRIDGTON — Loon Echo Land Trust will celebrate Earth Day on Friday, April 22, with two special events.

Staff from Loon Echo and the Lakes Environmental Association will meet at 9 a.m. in the Bridgton Community Center on Depot Street for the annual Earth Day cleanup.

This year the focus is on the downtown area. Work boots, gloves, bug spray and water are recommended. After clean up, the Bridgton Community Center will provide a cookout for participants, with grilled chicken and salad served. The day will conclude with a short walk in Pondicherry Park. Event will last about four hours.

Later that afternoon Loon Echo staff will trek to the summit of Bald Pate Mountain. Those attending should meet at 3 p.m. at the parking lot on Route 107.

Participants should feel free to share music, poems or stories that embody the spirit of the day. Sturdy hiking boots or shoes, water and snacks encouraged. After the hike, trekkers are invited to Bray’s Brew Pub in Naples for a pint of Bald Pate Preservation Rye. Since 1997, Bray’s has donated a portion of the proceeds from this special batch to the ongoing stewardship efforts at Bald Pate.

Those not able to make the hike may meet up at Bray’s around 5 p.m.

The events are subject to weather conditions and/or date changes. Events will be canceled when dangerous conditions or heavy weather are forecasted.
