1929 – 2016

AUBURN — Marcel B. Laflamme, 86, of 100 Campus Ave., and formerly of Shawmut Street, Lewiston, died late Sunday afternoon, April 17, at the Hospice House with his family at his side.

He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 20, 1929, one of five children born to Harvey and Irene (Lessard) Laflamme. Marcel was educated in Lewiston schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community. On Sept. 3, 1949, he married the former Theresa Lessard and together settled in Lewiston to raise their family. She predeceased him on May 22, 2010.

Marcel worked for many years at Knapp Shoe until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the former St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston and among his favorite activities were playing cards, playing the game “Heaven” (Au Ciel), and socializing with friends at Maison Marcotte. But, he especially enjoyed spending fun times and holidays with his family, children and grandchildren. He was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Marcel leaves behind his children, Doris Veilleux and husband, Donat, Irene Gagne and husband, Glenn, Susan Vachon, Nancy Bosse and husband, John, and Daniel Laflamme, all of Lewiston; someone very special in our lives, Lucille Gagnon of Lewiston; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, with another due to be born any day; a sister, Connie Clabby and husband, John, of Lewiston, and two sisters-in-law, Peggy Laflamme and Terry Lessard, both of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by two brothers Ronald and Roger Laflamme; a grandson, David Veilleux; a brother-in-law, Romeo Lessard; and a son-in-law, Donald Vachon.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Brown and staff, the staff of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, especially Steve, Jessica, Kate and Karen, and the Hospice House staff including Maureen and Joan for all the care, compassion and support given to Marcel and shown to his family during his final weeks.

The family invites relatives and friends to join “Team Laflamme” this year to walk in the Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice 5K on May 15th in memory of their parents.
