AUGUSTA —Fernand V. Blais, 83, of Sabattus died on Saturday, April 16, at the VA Medical Center – Togus following a long illness.
He was born in Lewiston on Dec. 13, 1932, the son of the late Fernand X. and Carmen (Jean) Blais and had been a resident of this community all of his life.
He was educated in Lewiston schools and had attended St. Dominic Regional High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Korean Conflict.
Throughout his life, Fernand owned and operated El Taco Tico Restaurant in Rockland.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Claire M. Mercier whom he married on June 20, 1951, of Lewiston; four sons, Michael Blais and his wife, Kathleen, of Thomaston, Bradford Blais and his wife, Debbie, of California, Kenneth Blais and his wife, Nancy, of Florida and Dennis J. Blais and his wife, Heather, of Georgia; one daughter, Moira Burnet and her husband, Jim, of California; three brothers, Richard Blais of California, Barney Blais and his wife, JoAnn, of Colorado and Daniel Blais and his wife, Kathy, of Arizona; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
