WISCASSET — A 33-year-old Lisbon man is free on bail after he was charged with pointing a loaded gun at another driver in Wiscasset.

William Dunton III was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.

Police said an 18-year-old man from Nobleboro, whose name has not been released, told them that a man driving a Subaru Impreza had tailgated him and then honked his horn as both drivers were headed south on Route 1 in Wiscasset.

According to Sagadahoc County Chief Deputy Brett Strout, when the 18-year-old looked in his rearview mirror, he saw the driver behind him racking the slide of a handgun.

The teen called police and shortly after, Bath police stopped Dunton’s car, seizing a handgun as Dunton was arrested.

He was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he was later freed on $5,000 cash bail. Dunton is scheduled to appear in court June 14 to answer to the charge.
