GARDINER — Catcher Kaitlyn DeBlois smacked a two run home run in the fifth inning as the Leavitt Hornets defeated the Gardiner Tigers in their softball opener, 5-1.

The Hornets got single runs in the top of the first, third and seventh. Angela Daigle had a double in the third and also had a single in the game. Ashley Kelley had a pair of singles.

Abby Robinson threw a complete game for the Hornets while Jen Bisson took the loss for the Tigers (0-1).

Logan Granholm had a pair of singles for Gardiner as the Tigers scored their lone run on an error in the bottom of the fifth.

Boys’ lacrosse

Messalonskee 21, Oxford Hills 1

WATERVILLE — Messalonskee unloaded on Oxford Hills with a 21-1 victory in a boys’ lacrosse game played at Thomas College on Thursday.

Connor Smith accounted for seven goals for the Eagles. Teammate Dylan Jones helped out with three goals.

Finn Williamson scored the lone goal for the Vikings.

Baseball

Gardiner 3, Leavitt 2

GARDINER — Nic Berube tossed a one-hitter and Gardiner used just four hits to squeeze by Leavitt with a 3-2 victory in a baseball game Thursday.

The Hornets got a strong start as well from Chad Morin who spung a four-hitter.

Gardiner’s Kellen Brochu brought home the winning run with his single in the sixth inning.

Tim Berube’s single in the seventh broke up Berube’s bid for a no-hitter.
