1944 – 2016

AUBURN — John “Jack” Henry Shanahan, 71, of Sabattus passed away on Tuesday, April 5, at Schooner Estates in Auburn.

He was born Dec. 18, 1944, in Lewiston to parents Henry “Hyme” and Mary Shanahan.

John was a sports enthusiast, following local, college and New England teams. During his years at Lewiston High School, he helped to lead the basketball team to many victories. He also was an avid racquetball player and a fan of motorcycles.

John was a previous owner of Shanahan’s Linoleum and Carpet Center and a subcontractor for several local flooring companies, including Floor Systems and Lowe’s. He lived on Sabattus Lake for many, many years with his tried and true canine companions, Oreo and Sam. He took great pride in maintaining the outside of his home and enjoyed boating. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed his childhood summers at the family camp in South Harpswell. John especially loved to spend time with his two daughters and three grandkids and beloved friends, Mary Atla Lessard and Greg McMorrow.

Surviving him are daughters, Jennifer Labadie, and her husband, Fabien, and Kimberly Foskett, both of Lewiston; grandchildren, Zachary and Kenzie Labadie and Emma Grace Foskett; sister, Maureen Shanahan Rock; niece, Susan St. Jean; and nephew, Steven St. Jean.

He was predeceased by both parents.
