1942 – 2016

LEWISTON — Linda R. Spugnardi, 73, of Lewiston died Tuesday, April 26, at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A lifelong Lewiston resident, Linda was born Nov. 14, 1942, to the late Roland and Emilienne (Roy) Doyon. She was educated at Holy Family School and Lewiston High School, and then graduated from the Connecticut Institute of Hairdressing in Hartford.

In 1961, she started what would become a 48-year career at Mr. Bernard’s School of Hair Fashion. Fondly known as Mrs. S. by her students, she was more than just an instructor — she was a mentor, a mother figure and a friend.

Linda was a member of the Maine State Cosmetology Association, Maine State Hair Fashion Committee and Hair America, where she held many positions. She won several hairstyling awards in local, national and international competitions, and even participated twice in the Hair Olympics. As an active volunteer in the Look Good Feel Better program, she touched the lives of many cancer patients.

Linda’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, whether it was just sitting around talking or doing some of her favorite things, such as golfing, camping, boating, gardening, dancing, summers at her family’s camp in Harpswell and traveling. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Holy Family Church.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 53 years, Robert J. Spugnardi of Lewiston, whom she married on Nov. 24, 1962; her daughters, Doreen Rancourt and her husband, Michael, of Lewiston, Laurie Spugnardi and her husband, James Frederick, of South Portland and Angella Spugnardi and her husband, Stephen Washburn, of Greene; grandchildren, Michelle and her husband, Ryan, Chris, Justin, Jasen, Isabella, Miranda and Ethan; brother, Jean-Paul Doyon and his wife, Helen, of Lewiston; sister-in-law, Cecile Doyon of Auburn; and brother-in-law, James Michaud of Asheboro, N.C.

She was predeceased by her brother, Gerard Doyon; and sister, Jackie Michaud.
