KINGSTON, Tenn. — Madeline Lucille Hill Moates, age 94, of Kingston, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, April 27, at Jamestowne Assisted Living.

Madeline was born in Auburn and had a long, wonderful, exciting life. During World War II, she joined the Navy Waves, was sent to San Diego, Calif., where she met and married her Tennessee love, Frank Moates.

They settled in Tennessee and operated many businesses together with their four children: Happy Time Roller Skating Rink; Villa Rose Restaurant; Scottish Inn Motel and Restaurant; and Alice’s Restaurant.

She was a member of Caney Ford Baptist Church, was a Boy Scout den mother, an avid bowler, senior citizen band member, square dancer, swimmer, snow skier, ice skater, roller-skater and water-skier in her 70s.

Survivors are daughter, Becky Thomas (Jim) of Kingston, Tenn.; sons, Steve Moates (Terie) of Kingston, Tenn., Pat Moates (Donna) of Kingston, Tenn.; grandchildren, Scott, Todd, Paul, Cary, Aunja, Michelle and Adam Moates, Jay Thomas and Angie Thomas Fritz; many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by parents, Lester E. and Orrah Libby Hill; five sisters; three brothers; husband, James Franklin Moates Sr.; and oldest child, James Franklin Moates Jr.
