LISBON — The Lisbon Historical Society program May 11 will feature local entrepreneur and businessman Mark Laroche.
Laroche, an expert on the Native Americans who lived on the Lisbon section of the Androscoggin River, will talk about his discoveries.
The first European settler in this area is believed to have built a log house near the Lisbon-Sabattus line. He would have encountered the native people who traveled, hunted game and fished on the river to the south, where the Sabattus River joins the Androscoggin.
Laroche has had a longtime interest in researching, exploring and unearthing artifacts from the people who camped and sometimes lived here. From what he has found, he can explain how they lived, what their social life was like, and what kinds of food they ate. He will also display some of the artifacts he has uncovered.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the program.
The Lisbon Historical Society is in the MTM Center at 18 School St., Lisbon Falls. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. Parking and entrance are at the rear of the MTM building.
