NORWAY — A South Paris man was injured and taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital on Friday after he turned his pickup truck into oncoming traffic.

Norway Police Officer John Lewis said Donald Lothrop, 73, was delivering a spare tire to his wife’s son Friday at about 5 p.m. on Waterford Road near Merles Landing.

“He pulled out into the road and he was struck on the driver’s side,” Lewis said.

Kathy McLaughlin, 53, of Norway was westbound on Waterford Road and struck Lothrop’s truck with her green 2002 Subaru Forester.

Both her vehicle and Lothrop’s blue 1998 Ford truck were damaged beyond repair, Lewis said.

“His truck didn’t look as bad, as far as the sheet metal is concerned,” Lewis said, “but I would say his frame was bent into an obtuse angle. And her front end looked like a squished sponge.”
