FARMINGTON — Devaney Doak & Garrett Booksellers Inc. will serve as the state’s official Children’s Book Week event location on Saturday, May 7.
The event was established in 1919 and celebrates children’s books and reading. All 50 states have one official event.
There will be a downtown book scavenger hunt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The five fastest to complete the challenge win a signed copy of the middle-grade novel “Book Scavenger” by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman and a $25 gift card to the bookstore.
There will be a Picture Book Bonanza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will feature three local picture book authors who will give readings and sign books.
Featured are Margy Burns Knight, author of “Talking Walls,” “Who Belongs Here” and “Welcome Babies.” Fran Hodgkins, author of “The Secret Galaxy,” “Andre the Famous Harbor Seal” and “Who’s Been Here: A Tale in Tracks” will also be featured. Rounding out the event is Eva Murray, author of “Island Birthday,” “Island Schoolhouse: One Room for All” and “Well Out to Sea: Year-round on Matinicus Island.”
