WELLS (AP) — A baby has been killed in a crash on the Maine Turnpike in Wells.
State police say 11-month-old Reece Degen was killed in the one-car crash Monday afternoon. She was in a child safety seat and suffered fatal head injuries.
Authorities say the driver of the vehicle lost control during heavy rainfall and crashed into a guardrail.
The baby’s mother, 21-year-old Brianna Degen of Sanford, was sitting in the front seat. She and the driver, 22-year-old Alyssa Cray of Sanford, were taken to a hospital with multiple injuries. Cray’s two young children, 4-month-old Connor Cray and 3-year-old Alexandria Cray were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. State police say the 4-month-old was in a child safety seat and the 3-year-old was wearing a seat belt.
